Can't get rid of unnecessary "fill"

In the photo below, note the high frequency (yellow? green? - I'm color-deficient and can't tell) fill on either side of the internal infill. Two questions:

1) Why is it there? It wastes a ton of print time time and beats the crap out of my printer, and it sure looks like it could/should be deleted and the actual internal infill expanded slightly to replace it.

2) What is it? When I try to match the color to the key (again, I'm color-deficient), it looks like it is supposed to be a bridge. Which makes no sense because the layer below it is solid.

I've tried every setting I can imagine might have something to so with this and can't make it go away. Any help very much appreciated!!!

I've worked out what's causing the small wiggled extrusions...its top and bottom layers!

Reducing the top and bottom layers to both be 3 layers will stop the unwanted extrusion....but you'll be wanting the five layers both top and bottom for the large flat surfaces...so you'll need to use multiple processes to allow the number of top and bottom layers to be changed from 3 to 5 and vice versa.

Thanks Doug! That did the trick! But...what?!!?!? Why does the number of layers have an effect like that? I'll report it as a bug unless you think differently.

Also, can you be my color-accurate eyes and tell me what Feature Type those little squiggles are?

Because if you have an overhang, but you also tell it you want to 10 solid layers on the bottom of the part, it will have to add solid fill since the perimeters will be offset by too much. Otherwise, you wouldn't actually have 10 solid layers of plastic when you looked up from the bottom of the part.

As stated by the previous poster, what you're seeing is the generation of a certain number of layers vertically above and below the "bottom" or "top" of the part. Here's a screen print to illustrate exactly what I mean:

If you look at my roughly drawn rectangles, you'll be able to count up five layers at any point.

And to answer your colour question....the squiggly lines are infill...which is a bright green in the preview. Having good vision (excluding the need to have glasses to get things in focus!!) you do tend to forget the struggles of others who have difficulties interpreting colours.
