Strange holes...

Hi,

I have strange holes in my slicing...???

Are these setting problems or is it a bug?

See "holes" (sliced preview) and "no holes" (normal view).

Simplify3D 4.0.1
Windows 10

Re: Strange holes...

It looks like the person who made that 3D model never actually did a proper boolean operation between the parts. So they aren't actually joined as a valid 3D solid, they are just self-intersecting bodies (you can see that pretty easily if you go to Repair > Identify Self-Intersecting Surface).

So either do a proper boolean union in your CAD package to make a real 3D solid, or you can try using the Mesh > Separate Connected Surfaces option in S3D which will try to sort out the issue for you.

Re: Strange holes...

Hi rrdavis,

thanks. I created it in Microsoft 3D Builder. But there it behaved like one object.
Before I bought Simplify3D, I printed it without problems in Cura.

Your tips in simplify 3d itself helped and worked!

Additionally I tried opening the STL in Microsoft 3D Builder again - and this time it showed me "there are errors" and I pressed the fix button and saved it. After loading in Simplify3D again, it looked, normal. So STL is fixed now... however it got broken ;-)

Thanks!
