Flashforge Dreamer Firmware 2.4 Problems

I updated my Flashforge Dreamer to firmware version 2.4. There's a warning in the changelog for version 2.4 which states: "Warning: Users must use the Flashprint software higher than version 3.4.1 after updating firmware, otherwise WIFI is unavailable for file transfer." Apparently this means that they changed both the WiFi AND the USB protocols, since Simplify3D and older versions of FlashPrint won't connect via USB to a Dreamer running 2.4. I rolled back to version 2.3, and Simplify3D works again.

I suppose this post is more of a PSA than anything else; that is, unless the protocol changes for the Dreamer are documented and Simplify3D can be updated accordingly. Note that version 3.4.1 of FlashPrint includes both the 2.3 and 2.4 firmware, so rollback is possible.

The new 2.4 FlashForge Dreamer firmware changed the USB VID. The VID and PID are set to:

VID=2B71
PID=0001

In 2.3 firmware these values were:

VID=0315
PID=0001

This is most likely the problem. Simplify3D is probably looking for a USB device with PID 0315 and not finding it with the newer 2.4 firmware.

Is there a way to tell Simplify3D to use the new VID via some setting file or is this hard coded in the software?

Ahh so this STILL has not been fixed? I just upgraded the firmware and can no longer connect via USB. This goes from bad to worse with S3D this week.

I just downgraded to firmware V2.3 20150615 / FlashPrint V3.4.2 and it connected to S3D via USB.

I just stumbled upon this thread because I'm having the same issues. How does one roll back the firmware on their printer? I don't have any of the old files that came with the printer on the sd card.

You just have to download the previous version of FlashPrint. I think it's v3.2.0 which you can find here (http://www.flashforge-usa.com/support/downloads/). After you download and install it, don't open the program just yet. First, browse to the installation directory and you should see a "Firmware" folder that contains the files you need. Copy that to a new location on your PC, since sometimes the auto-updater in FlashPrint will overwrite the old firmware files with the new ones (which you don't want!)

So then go ahead and open FlashPrint. It may ask you about an automatic update or something like that. It's fine to accept if you want since you already saved the firmware files you need.

Finally, close FlashPrint, copy the old firmware files back into the installation directory, and then open FlashPrint again. You can manually flash the firmware using the files you just copied over by going to Tools > Update Firmware.

Thank you for the quick reply. I don't think I would have thought that flashpoint would have saved a copy of the firmware in the directory.
