0,2 mm nozzle quwstions

Hi,

I have equipped a CTC printer (should be identical to a flashforge creator dual) with t 0,2 mm nozzles.
I noticed that the nozzle width setting does not have any affect in s3d I always have to change extrusion width if I want to print something really thin.
And the auto setting here appears to be fixed a.k.a. if i select auto for my 0.2 nozzle it sets to 0.24 and thats that this is not cool.
As this way I eider have to print all with the 0.2 mm width a.k.a. its slow and i need a layer hight of not more than 0.2mm making it even slower. Or I have to use a thick extrusion width and have no benefit from my small nozzle.

The main problem I head with S3d in the past was that if i printed something 1mm in width I got 2 shells with nothing in between, with the default 0,4 mm nozzle. That is not cool, with the 0.2 mm nozzle printing with 0.2 mm extrusion width it is of cause much better and I get the problem only for 0,5 mm thick things (I usually don't need)... but as said than its sloooow.

So my question is why not make s2d smart and use variable extrusion width during the print. So that if I print a 0,5 mm thick thing i will not get 2 shells of 0,2 mm thickness but 2 touching side by side 0,25 mm wide lines. (respectively all that x2 for a stock 0,4 nozzle) and make the printer use a 0,4 or even 1 mm extrusion width where there is bulk or thicker stuff.

Such that one can benefit from a dine nozzle while not slowing down everything.

If you want a response from Simplify3D support, you'll have to email them: https://www.simplify3d.com/contact-support/

If you're looking for advice and information from fellow users.....be nice!

My first point of reference is this thread: http://forum.simplify3d.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1980

As I've asked a few times if anyone is using small nozzles and got no replies, I guess you're one of the pioneers on this forum. But as I'll be looking at trying out a 0.2mm nozzle for printing in PLA in a month or so...then I'll be keeping a close eye on progress in this thread....

And printing with a 0.2mm nozzle will be slow. The nozzle area is 1/4 that of a 0.4mm nozzle....so extruding the same amount of plastic will take in theory 4 times as long! And I'm not sure if you'll be able to force enough plastic through to form a 0.4mm wide extrusion. The only way I can think of getting reliable dual width extrusion of such wide difference in width is to use a dual extruder machine with differing size nozzles.

Re: 0,2 mm nozzle quwstions

I have installed the 0.2 nozzles on the weekend and printing with 0.4 extrusion width seams just fine. I probably will try tomorrow how far I can go.
And no it is not slower it prints with the same speed, as long as the extrusion width is the same.

My problem is really the software's leak of smartness, it should adapt the extrusion width dynamically during printing depending on the structure's size its printing right now. That would be really smart and if no other software has this also a good new selling point.

Thats also why i ranted a bit about no interest from the support, this is nothing where an other user can help me this must be done by the software devs.

That's not a very flattering thing to say. Some of the guys on here are pretty smart! A lot smarter than me. There are capabilities in the software that I've probably not discovered yet!

If you want to extrude using different extruder setting for different "layers" of the print, then it can be done....manually, not "smartly".

Take a look here: http://forum.simplify3d.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2089

If you feel the software could be improved by a feature to adjust the extrusion witdh dynamically, then I suggest you raise a thread in the "Feature Request" section ....and see what interest it generates from the software user base. Much better than ranting.....

I don't doubt that, i did not want to be offensive.
I wanted only to say that what I need is a change to the software, and well that only a dev can do.

You are probably right that i should have started this thread in the "Feature Request" section though.

Printing different layers with different extruder widths still would be unnecessary slow if the entire layer has only a few fine structures.
