String, Strings, and Strings

I have been getting lots of strings in my printers and quite can't figure out why.
I have a printrbot simple maker
using pretty much default settings.
Extrusion Multiplier: .90
Retraction: 4mm at 40mm/s
Coasting: .20mm

Well those are very different settings that the stock Printrbot Simple Maker profile that comes with the software. I can't really comment on your exact settings, but I've used the stock profile many times and gotten great results from my Simple!

You might want to try going to help --> reset all settings, then selecting the Simple Maker from the configuration assistant after you restart the software. That would just help make sure that you are using the stock settings and don't have any other odd changes.

That's really blurry.. but it definitely looks different than cylinders I've printed. I wonder if your PLA is making a difference? Maybe it's absorbed some moisture or it's a different brand that needs to be run at very different temperatures than their stock settings..

FWIW, I have no stringing issues on my PrintrBot Simple Maker Edition using PLA from microcenter. I use their stock profile

I think you're right JoeJ that it's the filament since my green filament never did this and it's also been raining like cats and dogs where I live so there is probably humidity in the filament. I set the temp to 185C and set retraction to 6mm at 50mm/s. Here is what I get now.

That looks better. Once PLA soaks up a lot of moisture though, it's going to be really hard to ever get a good print out of it again. You'd be better off just getting a new spool.
