Vase mode wall thickness

Hi All,

I've tried using Vase mode for the first time last night and the end result did not reproduce the model with the correct wall thickness.

The actual wall thickness is 3mm but the printer produced a single extrusion width wall in my case that is from a 0.35mm nozzle on my Leapfrog Create HS.
Has anyone had this problem and how did you solve it? I am sure I cannot be the first person to have this problem.

Apologies if the answer has been posted elsewhere however a search for the issue per the subject line did not yield any results that could help.

Appreciate any help and thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Kind regards

Dave

Re: Vase mode wall thickness

Hi Dave,

Vase mode AKA SINGLE OUTLINE Printing Mode is a printing mode that will print a single outline. If you're wanting a 3mm wall on a vase mode print, you will need a nozzle that large.

Only way to accomplish what you're asking in any slicer I know of, is to modify your model to look like a vase (be empty inside with interior walls and exterior walls) and print it normally.

Re: Vase mode wall thickness

Hi DarthRevan,

Thank for taking the time to reply.
That being the case that it will only print a wall the thickness of the nozzle; do you (or know of anyone) using this setting?
What do they print with this type of setting / where could it be of possible use?
I do see your point about the wall thickness being relative to the nozzle diameter.
I would have thought you might at least be able to specify the wall thickness regardless and print in a concentric mode (as opposed to rectalinear mode).
If you cannot modify the thickness ( to me a primary requirement) then it is near useless unless someone can tell me where it is so fantastic in it's application...
I for one would certainly look forward to being enlightened..

Thanks in advance for your replies and suggestions.

Best regards

Re: Vase mode wall thickness

Vase mode is designed to eliminate layer change marks. It's more for surface quality than a certain function. This was stated here: Version 2.0 Changelog Post

Functional vases, that need some sort of horizontal strength, should be modeled as vases.

Re: Vase mode wall thickness

vase mode does have limited use. its not for every print thats for sure but on a rare occasion when you need it it works fantastic. i have used it for a few prints over the past year or so. only way to change the wall thickness is my changing your extrusion width setting and or your nozzle. it just puts one single extrusion with one start and one stop. i would post something that i did with it but thingiverse seems to be down.
