Switching Between Printers

I have different styles of printers, both cartesian and delta, and it would be nice to be able to quickly and easily swap back and forth between the makes, models, bed sizes, etc. I would like to see something where I can set up a personal library of printers that I can toggle through.

You can do that by just editing your process setting and selecting a new profile. In the Gcode tab of each profile it can be setup so it'll change your firmware configuration, baud rate and build parameters on the screen so you'll be good to go when you change profiles.

If you need more profiles, go to Help-->Configuration Assistant to add more profiles.

Is there any way to go through the configuration assistant that doesn't delete my existing print processes?

jschneider89 - I just saw that they posted another video on YouTube - this one is all about Profiles! I bet it will answer some of your questions.

I noticed that also.

I hope that they keep posting more videos on how to better use all the features.

Re: Switching Between Printers

BUMP! I am the same boat, as I am about to add another printer to the mix. The first was cartesian, and now I will be adding a delta. What is the option / is there an option to store the MACHINE profiles? I have several profiles that I was using when I switch materials. Material management in that sense is working well. I am comfortable with that. Now to take it further, I would like to know if there is a way to have multiple machine profiles, not just the one that I can see in the preferences currently. in this ideal case, the stored profiles would not be deleted or destroyed when switching back and forth. Aside from the added step of creating a repository of them outside of simply3d via export, and then reloading them every time I switch machines that seems like it would be excessive.

OR could I have two copies of simplify3d installed, choosing each machine, and then not worrying about swopping back and forth? that also seems excessive.

any advice is appreciated!

Switching between printer profiles is easy! From your edit process settings window select the profile of the printer you want to print with from your "Select Profile" drop down menu.

This process is confusing and unintuitive because the boxes that update machine settings and firmware are not ticked by default. At least for one of my printers they weren't. I spent like an hour trying to figure out how to switch between machines and have it update, and the response from most people online was just to use the configuration assistant every time (which deletes your processes so I had to keep starting from scratch). This should tell you that most people are just as confused as we all are. For some reason, the boxes you have to check to make this work are in the gcode tab, which isn't even visible unless you look in the advanced settings. Please tell the devs to check these boxes for every printer by default, add a "machine settings" tab, or at least have a warning pop up if they aren't checked when you switch between different machines. The fact that this process is less intuitive on a $150 piece of software than it is on free software like Cura doesn't make sense.
