Version 3.0 unfriendly install for offline computers

Hello.

I just upgraded my system to version 3.0 and found the process quite frustrating. I run all of my printing computers offline and it was difficult to get the new version installed so that I could use it. Please review the install and log-in requirements to make your software more friendly to those who do not maintain a network connection with their printing computers.

Thanks.........

I believe it's the same system as before, except you need to be online when connecting to the cloud server in the Configuration Assistant.

Just because it's the way it used to be doesn't mean it's not bad.

Larry,

I've been using my S3D in a virtual machine for the last 2 days, haven't connected it to the internet since installing and downloading the one profile I needed. No problems here!

Don't want to mess up your setup, but if you are willing to try something for me --- try disabling your Ethernet device and see if you can still use Simplify3D without getting the log-in screen. I run most of my computers offline without Ethernet cards and Simplify3D won't run that way for me.

Hmm...One thing to check that I just noticed while exploring:

Tools tab, Options, Preferences: Is the checkbox "Check for Updates at Startup" checked?

If so that *might* be getting in the way of S3D starting up without an internet connection.

larry and i were having this conversation on the makergear forum. i tested it and no problems at all if you have no internet connection. the problem is when you have a true offline computer with no ethernet card.

It might be they are pulling the MAC address from the card as a machine ident. It used to be that S3D would not run in a virtual machine, so they may have fixed that by using the network chip as the ident.

I can not escape the login screen if I completely disable the network device. But with the device enabled and not connected to any WiFi/Ethernet it works fine.
