"Print every infill angle on each layer" changes density BUG

S3D 3.0 -

The following two pictures were sliced with identical settings, except for the "Print every infill angle on each layer" checkbox. When it's checked, the infill becomes much less dense.

This happens with Honeycomb or Grid infill; haven't tested the others.

Re: "Print every infill angle on each layer" changes density

of course. if you are printing every layer you are doubling the amt of infill so the honeycomb would get twice as big. the same goes for the infill width setting. if you print at 200% width at 50% then to make the honeycombs the same size at 100% you will need to reduce the % to 25.

Hmmm...I get what you're saying, but I still think it's wrong. Infill density should be calculated based on area, not weight of the plastic.

Grid and honeycomb should always print every infill angle on each layer. (there should only be one for honeycomb and two for grid)
If you specify more than one angle and DONT have that box checked, then your back to the same problem with the rectilinear infill. (only intersection points are connected in the Z direction)

your pictures don't appear to use more than one angle, so I would agree--this is a bug.

to me, the "print every infill angle on each layer" is a way to get simplify to print a grid pattern (or other pattern using several angles) using rectilinear infill. It would be easy to overfill at the intersection points, but you could do some pretty interesting patterns this way.

I agree with jimc - your infill percentage is literally the ratio of plastic inside the part. So if you only print infill once every 2 layers, you would need to have twice as many lines to achieve the same density. So it looks like the software is doing exactly what it should.

Don't use that button to print honeycomb infill, look at how wide it prints with it checked.
The honeycomb works very well as-is. You can even reduce the angles it prints to just one if you want.
