That is great. Ive been keeping an eye on carl's printer for a long time. Looks like the print quality is fantastic. Hopefully he decides to produce them on a large scale.

While there are a few little teething problems, as you would expect the printer is a gem. I have had to rework all of my STL files to a higher polycount, my Rep 2 produced smooth curves, the Clone R1 showed every facet! Very simple design built with Swiss precision. I find it amazing, one guy has designed and made these all on his own. BTW that model is printed at 0.2 layer height no one believes it when they see it.

I went mad online and bought just about every metallic model paint I could find. The best ones are Model Master I use the iron and burned iron as a base coat. Mr Hobby superfine metallic and ordinary metallic are great. I brush finish. Once I have the base coat on I then use some superfine metallic powders I found at the local art store. I have a Coper, 2 Golds and a Silver. These are gust rubbed onto the surface in a random manor. The trick I have found to get it all to come together is to get some graphite powder, used to lubricate locks, and rub this on top of some of the finishes. Placed on the Iron paint it makes it look really plated and metallic, also adds a grunge factor. I then go over random areas with a wash of whatever colour I am trying to enhance. It took about 40 hours to paint this model. Hope that all makes sense and is of some help. Sadly there is no quick way of achieving this sort of paint job..

thanks for sharing. if there is one thing that most people dont understand its how much time it takes to do nice paint work.
