FlashForge correct extruder not preheating

On my FlashForge, it refuses to wait for extruder heating to complete before starting (yes, I have the checkbox for this checked.) And I've run into a case where no filament is extruded at all. As I type this I'm printing something just fine with version 2.2.2. I switched back and forth a couple times on versions, and 3.0.1 is still behaving very badly, with all settings 100% identical (where applicable) with 2.2.2.

EDIT: upon examining the gcode, it seems if I set the Right extruder only to print, it still sets the gcode to only wait for the left extruder to reach temp, even though I may not be using the left extruder. Not sure what setting I have messed up for that, if any.... Still not sure why it's refusing to feed filament though.

Re: FlashForge correct extruder not preheating

I have updated this topic to be a bit more descriptive on the issue you are having.

As for the actual solution, first, I should start by telling you that I have already been using the stock Flashforge profile and it's working fine for me. Selecting different extruder auto-configure options like "right extruder only", "left extruder only", and "both extruders" properly preheats everything exactly as I would expect. So I am not experiencing any of the issues you are, but of course, I am using their stock profile.

It's clear from your post that you have already modified the stock profile, as the option for "wait for temperature controller to stabilize.." is not checked in the stock profile (and shouldn't be!). Checking that option actually causes additional commands to be inserted which could be creating your issue.

So instead of trying to find everything you changed in the stock profile, I would recommend doing this: go to help > configuration assistant, and select the FlashForge printer you are using. That will add a NEW profile to the bottom of your drop down list (it may be labeled something like "FlashForge Printer(2)"). Then go select that profile, and without making any other changes, choose "right extruder only" or "left extruder only" from the extruder auto-configure drop down in the top right. That is the proper way to switch between doing a left-extruder-only or right-extruder-only print. Then create an x3g file and try printing on the machine.

If you have any issues after following these instructions, post your factory file in this thread.

That made a world of difference, both in this problem and some other problems I was seeing. Thanks for the simple fix.

Re: FlashForge correct extruder not preheating

OK, after quite a few more prints, I'm still not at 100% on version 3.0.1. I still get problems with non-extrusion of filament for no reason. I have to delete the profile and start over. Plus I'm also getting printer disconnects after jobs are done. I have to fully reset the printer and disconnect/reconnect the USB cable to get Simplify3D to see the printer again. Version 3 has really been a pain! Grrrr.

Re: FlashForge correct extruder not preheating

I have simular problem, but not sure if it is software or printer. I cannot use the right extruder on my Flashforge unless the bed is heated at or above the current temp. IE, if bed temp is 20C and bed heat is set to 0-15,C the extruder will never come on, but if I set to heat bed at 25C, it will come on after reaching the temp. On the other hand, the left extruder works with bed at 0C.

Re: FlashForge correct extruder not preheating

I'm starting to thing FF and S3D 3.0 were not made for each other. Kinda sad since I bought both together from FF. I'm stuck now with printing from other software with less results than with S3D 2.x I hope they get these issues worked out eventually.

Re: FlashForge correct extruder not preheating

That behavior doesn't happen with the stock profile for the FF Creator. So if you're having trouble, post your factory file and it should be easy to locate what's wrong.

Alternatively, just go re-download the stock profile since that's working fine and preheats exactly as I would expect on my printer :D
