Cartridge Error on Da VInci 2.0 Should I move to Repetier?

I'm running the stock firmware on the Da Vinco Duo 2.0, its 1.0F -and I have been able to send prints from S3D. I get a lot of fails and restarts, sometimes with nothing displayed - and for the first time, error message was "Error On Cartridge 2, Press OK to cancel" - there was no recovering from this. I had to cancel.

The print looked great so far, very smooth. the cartridge had plenty of filament. There was no physical reason for the print to stop.

I had just completed print sliced by XYZware and calibrated the machine. The print it stopped on was a comparison print, to see how the two compared. Its a dual extruder print, I set it up by hand. There were two profiles, one for the green and one for the red and it had barely started - just finished laying down the bottom 3 layers and was in the middle of the honeycomb infill.

Has anyone else had this issue? I am teetering on the edge of flashing this firmware and going to Repetier, but I am concerned that the firmware is too mature and I wont be able to flash it afterwords. also, ZXY keeps asking me to update the firmware and now I am afraid to move forward in that direction, will that change things should I try to flash it?

that really stinks! I've never had my da vinci do that to me mid-print, the only time I've ever sexperienced this was before a print, somehow the machine didnt read the cartridge properly, or the connector on the filament cartridge chip was not entirely in contact with the reader on the machine, but I would usually pop the cart out and plug back in for it to show up properply on the machine. If this happened to me mid print, I think I would definitely just flash Repetier asap, as it's not worth keeping stock firmware if you're going to have these type of issues with their filament system

I've seen this before when one of the cables for the cartridge reader was going bad. It would randomly display this error.

This is a fairly new printer, less than 3 weeks old. If the cartridge reader is going on it, I may just return it. I've got 30 days to get a refund on this machine

i had the exact same issue on a new davinci 2.0 with the latest firmware. it consistently happened on one cartridge. I fixed it by reloading the factory default cartridge firmware with a XYZPro re setter. I have had no problems since.

Thanks everyone for the input. It was really helpful. I took the leap, and flashed and now its a Davinci running Repetier. I am able to get amazing slices out of simplify 3d every time, and I get superior slicing results compared to XYZ Ware.

Since then we installed Octoprint on a Raspberry Pi and its smooth as ever, we just move the slices over to that little machine and there is no hiccuping. Two days ago we installed a camera so we can monitor the print happening the server / print room from any device with a browser. I am so glad that I took the step away from the stock to this - it allows for much cooler ways to use this machine - so much more than just breaking away from the Cartridge System (which was reason enough).

AeonDG - I'm in the same situation you were in. How difficult did you find getting Repetier working on the DaVinci? Which set of instructions did you follow to build / flash it? Thanks -ssokol
