turn off infill

Hello,

I'm trying to print this perimeter bed level, https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:732257 and can't get Simplify3D to turn off infill. I set Interior Fill Percentage to 0 but it still shows infill in print preview. Is this not the right setting? Thank you for any suggestions you may have.

Re: turn off infill

if your infill is set to zero then it should not be putting any kind of infill. are you sure its infill? in the print preview turn the display mode to feature type and be sure the color of what looks like infill actually is infill.

Re: turn off infill

I can think of a couple of things that you could try...

Firstly...a possible oversight.. is what you're seeing a raft? I downloaded the shape and when I first viewed it, I had a raft specified....and at a glance, it looked like infill.

Secondly...it may be a very weird bug I've noticed in S3D. Try changing the layer thickness and see if the "infill" goes away. If it does, set the layer thickness to a very small amount bigger than your original thicknes (eg 0.2001 instead of 0.2) and see if that works.

Check the Advanced tab, and make sure that "merge all outlines into single solid model" is disabled

  • - JoeJ: Advanced tab, and make sure that "merge all outlines into single solid model" is disabled: it is disabled
    - DKightley: is what you're seeing a raft? : raft is off
    - DKightley: set the layer thickness to a very small amount bigger than your original thicknes (eg 0.2001...) : set Layer/Primary Layer Height to 0.2001, still doing it. I hope this was the setting you meant.
    - JimC: in the print preview turn the display mode to feature type : the color for infill is orange, while the color it's filling this are with is green, which means according the the color legend it's Solid Layer. !?! I don't think it's a GUI malfunction, on Play (in print preview) it is actually filling the whole center in. Yet, outside of preview mode, it just looks like an outline.

Re: turn off infill

the model has a bunch of non-manifold errors in it. if you go to repair -> identify non-manifold, the software will show the warning about the bad mesh.

so you will need to repair the STL file first, try something like netfabb or https://modelrepair.azurewebsites.net/

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Shazam! Netfabb cleaned it up. Thanks Razster. Is this something you do by default? I didn't see any warnings so I'm wondering how you found this.

Re: turn off infill

anytime the preview doesn't look like what you expect (i.e. filling in areas that are supposed to be holes) it is almost 99% of the time due to a bad mesh. unfortunately many programs out there create horrible STL files with many errors.
