fff for nylon

does anyone have a good fff file or settings for nylon on an m2? tips or tricks? im using taulman 618. it seems to be hit or mis. im printing on garolite and it stick one time and peels the next. seems to be quite stringy as well. just want to compare notes with anyone that may have a bit of nylon experience.

Re: fff for nylon

My settings are similar to my abs settings just a little more retraction and 225. The most important thing I've found with the 618 is to dry it extremely well.

Re: fff for nylon

yes i have noticed that for sure. the stuff comes out of the ext tip almost in a foam its got so much moisture in it. i put it in the oven the other day with all my other filament then in a plastic tub with a container of damp-rid. i have the retraction set at around 3 i think but it still strings a bit. that however is probably from all the moisture. now that its dry i will have to try and tune it in better.

Dried properly the Taulman 618 prints like ABS. Put the spool in a hot air oven at 80°C for two hours.
Then print with the still hot filament.

You will have to print some calibration cubes to fine tune the extrusion factor.

Try UHU glue stick on the build plate. Works very well for Taulman 618 on a simple glass plate.

Thanks, I'll have to try the glue stick. Now that my nylon is dry I'll see if I get some better results

I know this is a little bit of an old thread, but how did your prints end up coming out? What size nozzle are you using?

Re: fff for nylon

hmm well over the past 2 years i have come to realize one thing....i hate nylon.

i have used the 618 and bridge. the bridge sticks slightly better but i think it sucks in the moisture worse. you really need to bake the crap out of that stuff to get a nice extrusion. within a few hours of printing its all wet again. i have not tried the 910. i really only rarely have a need for nylon so i avoid it at all costs.

Re: fff for nylon

I'm ONLY printing with the 910 right now. That stuff is ridiculous strong when printing with a 0.8mm nozzle. Right now my problem is being able to remove the supports because they are printing so thick/strong. I've played around some with the Bridge and 618 and got really nice results out of them (910 also) using a 0.35mm nozzle, but they weren't nearly as strong as they are now using the larger nozzle.

I'm trying to tweak my prints to regain some of the level of detail I had before, which I'm getting close...but the supports are killing me at this point. My PolyPrinter only has a single extruder so I don't have the option for soluble support at this point. Any advice on getting good supports printed that are still easy to remove?

Re: fff for nylon

the only thing you can do is increase the gap distance. default is 1 layer. try increasing to 2 layers. of course that will make your bottom surfaces a little more sloppy as well. its really your only option
