Program crashes on desktop

I am running S3D on a Dell laptop Intel Core 2 Duo, P7450 @ 2.13GHZ, 8 GB Ram, 64 Bit, W7

I can start S3D fine, I can't seem to get it to slice a small STL (attached) The progress bar move a bit then seems to stop moving, When I check my performance monitor the program is using 100% of my CPU.
Now it gets strange. I exit S3D from the menu and my CPU monitor does not change it stays at 100% usage. When I try to start S3D again it crashes on the desktop. I have to restart the computer, check my CPU monitor and usage is back to 30%.
I can then start S3D and the cycle starts all over.

I loaded S3D on my desk top and load the same part and as soon as I click "prepare" the program quits.

Any Ideas?

Ok, I can deal with not running it on my laptop. Could you help with my desktop. I can slice the part but as soon as I hit preview the program quits.

Re: Program crashes on desktop

Joe,

I'm running on a Dell Latitude E6500, Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 @ 2.53 GHz, 6GB RAM. I have Creator installed in Linux Mint 13 / Cinnamon 64-bit and in MS Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1. I figure if it runs fine on this, it should run fine on your Dell laptop, at least if the video drivers aren't an issue. (Might try downloading the latest, just in case.....)

In both operating systems, if I import and arrange, then add my standard MakerGear M2 process WITHOUT SUPPORT GENERATION, your STL file slices nearly instantaneously. If I generate support, the time it takes varies ENORMOUSLY with the support generation settings. The bargraph on the bottom right pauses at about 20% complete while support is generated. If I generate the support with certain angles, it takes so long that I have to cancel (and it takes a while to respond to the cancel click).

Could you try slicing the part WITHOUT support generation? Don't bother trying to print it --- just slice it and see if it finishes and previews.... and note that when the preview comes up, NOTHING is displayed except the platform until you slide the End slider.

Thanks!
Dale

Re: Program crashes on desktop

OK I uninstalled the 64 bit app. and installed the 32 bit app on my laptop (my laptop is 64 bit) and it works, I cant see the tool or retracts even though the boxes are checked. I'll work on that.

Now on my desktop, everything is fine until I click on anything in the preview window, then the program quits. I only have 1GB Ram that could be it. I installed it on another desktop with 4GB Ram and it works fine. How do I deactivate the app. on the one that doesn't work to activate it on the other? The deactivate function in the app. does not work.

Re: Program crashes on desktop

Joe,

Glad you're making progress. To deactivate and return the key to being available, you need to be connected to the Internet. The key will be "returned" to S3D and you'll be able to use it to install on another machine. (You'll, of course, need to be connected the Internet with that machine in order to move the activation to it.)

Re: Program crashes on desktop

Dale,
I tried the deactivate function but after I enter the key and click ok, the message states that the " activation" was successful. I tried to enter it on the other computer but no activation available. Both computers are connected to the internet.

Re: Program crashes on desktop

Joe,

Understood. I've heard of a sequence of events like this, but I don't remember what the situation / solution was. IIRC, the user worked it through S3D support, so best to shoot them an e-mail at [email protected] . I suppose If all else fails they can kill your existing key and issue a new one, or something like that.
