strange xy axis movement issue

I was under the impression that X/Y axis movement speed was only for non printing movements, and the rest of the movements would be controlled by the default print speed setting.. However I was printing a part today when my extruder started clicking away during infill .. I looked at the extruder gear and noticed that it was rotating quite rapidly.. I was obviously trying to extrude too fast causing missed steps..
I looked at the layers in S3d and this is what I saw:
simplifyxyspeed.PNG
Notice the infill is set to print at about 59m/sec and that the maximum speed shown in the bar graph is 80mm/sec ..
My default print speed is set at 50mm/s and my x/y axis speed is set at 80mm/s . .why is my infill going beyond my set default print speed?
I tried at test and set the xy axis speed down to 50mm/s and sure enough, the infill dropped down as well.
Is this normal? is this how it's supposed to work?

Re: strange xy axis movement issue

Those red lines are travel movements. I don't see anything out of the ordinary with the picture that you attached. Just lower your default printing speed if you need the infill to print slower.
