Well that just goes to show how much of a difference the extruder hardware can make. Things can degrade over time and have a big impact on your print results. I've completely replaced extruders on my printers before, and it suddenly acts like a completely different machine.

Check that there are not any burrs of plastic on the inner part of your filament reel. This has caused lines to appear. Basically the tension on the filament gets high right before the burr is rolled over. Then it's fine for an entire rotation until you get back to the burr again and the filament pulls, under-extrudes and you get another line.
