BFB 3D TOUCH - Not printing E3 forever!

Hi there,

I am having problems with my 3D Touch printer.

I have downloaded the tip of the day 22 FFF file for the twin extruder 3D TOUCH and have set most options.

Problem 1 : When I try to print using 'save to file' I get a .bfb file rather than the AXON3 output which is a .bfbe however the printer seems to load it up fine. Initially all looks good. The extruder heads home over the waste box and begin to heat up. First E1, then E2... then E1 again... some 7 mins later the imaginary third extruder E3 trys to heat up with a target of 000. This clearly never happens.

There is no third extruder in either my setup nor on my printer.

Problem 2: I am not sure that it is possible to connect to this printer via USB? to print live from the computer. Is this true?

3dsystems used encrypted communication for their printer, so I think you still have to use AXON to transfer the files. Although I have heard of some people just putting them on a USB drive and running them through the printer LCD, so that may work too.

As far as heating the 3rd extruder, are you sure you're using the correct profile from here (viewtopic.php?f=8&t=3113&p=13492)? There are 3D Touch profiles for dual and triple extruders. Make sure you pick dual and not triple.

If you're still having trouble, check the header for the BFB file. Do you see any commands for the third extruder? I didn't see any in my files..

Thanks for the reply. I certainly downloaded the twin extruder profile (fff), but the thing is still trying to heat the imaginary third extruder

When you say the firmware is encrypted, does this mean that I will not be able to connect directly with simplify3d? Its a bit sad as the only reason I purchased was because its advertised as compatible.

Do you know if there is a way to look at the output gcode directly using note pad? Should I just rename the file as .txt?

To Clarify a typo in my first post.

I have downloaded and loaded the twin extruder 3d touch profile from tip of the day 30 (viewtopic.php?f=8&t=3113).

I am still confused about its attempts to heat the third extruder when it does not exist either physically or within simplify3d config.... I reference only two extruders in the setup.

I have emailed support buy have not had a reply yet, any help would be greatly appreciated before I apply for a refund.

You have to send the BFB files through another program, because the printer uses encrypted communication so that no one else can talk to it.

As for your problem, a lot of people on here have successfully printed on the dual extruder machines using those profiles, so I'm not sure what exactly you would be doing differently. You might want to try asking on one of the other BFB threads.

Do you work for simply3D? I see you have helped a lot of people on here.

I am using the correct fff profile and have received an email from support who so far are being very helpful. When I discover the answer I will update this thread and change the title to SOLVED to help others. I have used the search function provided and cannot find another example which matches my problem exactly. I am sure there is a simple solution, but as a new user who is likely unfamiliar with the operation of the software I am a little lost.

However - I must say that to advertise software as being compatible, to discover that I have to run the output through AXON, and cannot use specific and advertised features is very disappointing and actually in my view criminal. - If you don't work for simply3D I do not expect you to comment on this, however if you do I would love to hear your take.

And yes, I'm sure it is frustrating to hear that a 3D printer uses encrypted communication so that you are stuck using their crummy software. That's why I try to stick with open platforms these days

Yes, thank you Carl... I am aware that this is a user forum.

Despite my love of open source projects, as I age I tend to move towards closed source well funded projects rather than poorly funder open projects... I am an electronic engineer and unfortunately open source projects don't feed me. There are a few exceptions to that rule and when I next have time to build a 3D printer I will be purchasing an open source control board. At the moment though I would like to get this machine working.

As I mentioned in my post, I am talking to their support team. When I have a solution to one or all of the issues I will post on the forum to help others who may have this problem in the future.

And yes, it is annoying that the machine encrypts code, It is more annoying to spend nearly $150 on software which is advertised as being compatible with your machine to find that actually it is not.

If they offered a demo version I would have spotted the problem before purchase.

Hi Rob,

Did you find a solution to this?
I just purchased a licence of S3D and oh joy, it wont print!

I have a dual 3d touch running on firmware 5.3.1 and got the same results as you.

I never used Axon much and preferred Kisslicer for its greater control and speed, so I avoided the firmware upgrade to encrypted files.

There were a few things I couldnt get my head around with the fff profile:
I firstly noted that when I import the profile for "Twin Extruders" it comes in named "3D Touch Triple".
Also the bed size in the profile was 230x275mm, but the 3D Touch bed is 400x295!
Another oddity is that the temp for PLA was set to 235 deg, a bit hot for PLA....

Do you have a working fff for dual 3D touch that you can share?
Any help would be appreciated!

I have also bought this software to use with a 3D touch printer but I cannot get the extruder to extrude, the extruder primes but does not extrude while trying to print, have you had any luck getting simplify3d to work on 3D touch printer?
