origin offsets and the build grid in S3D

Recently upgraded to version 3 and found that my build grid did not align correctly to the realworld (ie prints were not printed in the same place on my build platform as they were shown in simplify 3D) For example a part printed in the center of the grid was actually shifted 20 mm towards the rear of my build platform

I figured out the origin offset but all that really did was shift my X/Y/Z indicator about 20 mm away along the y axiz from the build grid in the soft ware. This does allow me to place objects in the center, but I have to figure out the offset, which I thought was the point of the feature in the first place so I didn't have to do guesswork.

You can see how this manifests and how it kind of screws with being able to place your prints on the build platform properly.
Any idea how to fix this or is this as designed?

Well that would mean that your firmware's homing offsets are incorrect. Here's an easy test. Go to the Machine Control Panel and send a G28 command to home all axes. Then send G1 X0 Y0 Z0 F3000. Does the print head stay put or does it move to the corner of your bed? If it stays put, then you need to update your firmware's homing offsets, since clearly the homing position does not correspond with the zero position of your print bed.

Let us know the results of the test and what firmware your printer uses and we can provide instructions. Many of us have had to do the same change before ;)

That is a possibility.

Using the home controls in the machine control panel, when I tell it to home all axes it heads to the corner as I would expect.

I will run through the test when I get home, maybe I will hook up octoprint to control the printer too.

My printer had been offline since about April, mostly due to a new baby and work commitments.
When I fired things up and upgraded to 3.0 I was having communication issues and thought my firmware got corrupted. I re-flashed my printer before I realized I had my communications speed wrong.

I will double check my settings, might be a good time to upgrade my FW anyways.
