Top layer not filling honeycomb pattern

What settings would cause honeycomb pattern not to close on top layer?
Left is on Cura and right is Simplify3D, TAZ5 on best quality.

Thanks!

Re: Top layer not filling honeycomb pattern

This is possibly caused by getting retraction settings a little wrong. As previously stated, please post your factory file so the "experts" on here can take a look at your settings.

On File dropdown....Save factory file as....

Re: Top layer not filling honeycomb pattern

looks like it is doing the top layers but the extrusions are breaking apart. its is usually from too high temp, extrusion width setting too narrow compared to your nozzle. as said, post your factory file up.

Re: Top layer not filling honeycomb pattern

Indeed, perhaps Retraction is off, stock machine files are missing Taz5 0.5mm single nozzle so had to modify from dual 0.5 and single 0.35

I set it Retraction distance 1.5 ( 0.5 nozzle, single) .

original file was printing with:

Just go file from support and it is 1.7 there. Will try again.

Retraction 1.7 still shows problem, though smaller :-(

To see the specific properties of the object, it needs the FACTORY-file, not the fff-file

<FILE> menue
Save factory as ...

Re: Top layer not filling honeycomb pattern

Comparing the best quality settings

Cura HQ vs S3D HQ for Taz5 0.5 files

main differences:
1-layer 0.18 vs 0.1 - this is perhaps main reason? maybe 0.1 is too low for ABS?
2-retraction vert lift 0.1 vs 0
3-print speed 50 vs 60 mm/s
4-min fan speed 40% s 20%
5-first layer width 125 vs 100%
6-min time between layers 20s vs 15s
7-filament diameter 2.85 vs 3.0 - is it actually used for anything but weight?

Re: Top layer not filling honeycomb pattern

Hiya,

are you reffering to the stock/default settings? if so they are just generic and should really be adjusted according to your printing conditions.

ABS prints fine at 0.1mm
filament diameter varies from product to product. so it's good practice to measure and adjust every new reel.
The size you input should affect your extrusion rate so if you have a higher value it will extrude less.

with the top layer not adhering issue:
I had similar issues but dropping the temperature resolved this problem. I am printing ar 225 deg.
