Lulzbot Taz 5, I can not print without a raft

Hello,
This may or may not be a common problem. Ever since I have been using Simplify3D on my Taz 5 I have been using a raft. Recently I tried printing on just the heated bed with no luck. Thinking it was the printer I loaded my file into cura to print with no raft and it prints 100% fine with no raft, which leads me to believe it is either a bug or a setting that needs to be changed in Simplify3D.

So far I have reset all the factory settings, tuned the setting and even tried reinstalling Simplify3D, each time having no luck. If someone else has had this problem or has a solution to this problem please let me know. Once again my main issue is printing with no raft on a heated build plate. Very little dots and strands of filament come out if none at all. I have let the print go through a few layers with the same luck. Not enough filament is being extruded, but when printing with a raft all is fine.
Hope someone can help.
Thanks,
Brian

Re: Lulzbot Taz 5, I can not print without a raft

I had similar issues, I have a different printer but this is what I did to make it work:
- Add a skirt (help getting a good clean filament for the first real layer)
- in the layer settings change the "First layer width" mine is at 250% but depends on printer and filaments ecc...
- first layer speed is set to 10%
- first layer height is set to 90%

You might want to change the temperature of the first layer to make it stick better. I used to do that but the settings that I mentioned on top solved most of my issues so I don't change the temperature anymore.

That was my first course of action. I went through that list with no luck. The printer prints absolutely fine when raft is turned on. But when I try to print a print, same setting and configuration with the raft turned off I have a problem. Even with my other slicer with raft turned off it works perfectly fine.

I'm not sure it's possible to go through the suggestions in that guide and not see a difference. If you follow the items, you would eventually end up extruding a lot of plastic fairly far away from the build plate, so it would be very easy to see. You said no plastic is coming out. I'm not sure how that's possible if you truly followed those instructions...

Re: Lulzbot Taz 5, I can not print without a raft

I'm using S3D on a TAZ 5, with no problems without using a raft. A couple of things to check in your S3D settings:

In your .fff process file:

A) Gcode tab: Global G-code offsets: is the Z-axis number set to 0? Normally it should be.

B) Advanced tab: Layer Modifications: is "Start printing at height" disabled or set to 0? Normally that should be so.
