Configuring a new Taz 4

I'm having a problem with print location and after several hours of searching and testing is driving me nuts. I've configured for a Taz 4 Cartesian printer using the basic parameters from Repetier host (which works correctly). I see my model in the center of the bed in S3D's window but when I print the printing is taking place in the front left corner (my X, Y home location) of the bed and not in the center where I want it.

I've attached my FFF Settings G-Code tab where I believe this configuration takes place. S3D version 3.0.2 running on Mac OS X 10.10.5.

If I change the Origin Offsets from 150 to 0 the model shows in the upper left corner in the window. I have not tried to print that. What am I missing?

Thanks,
Michael

Re: Configuring a new Taz 4

LulzBot uses Marlin for their firmware. I'm sure they do plenty of work maintaining that firmware to make sure it works with their printers. So if you want to easiest approach, I would just use the stock Marlin TAZ 4 firmware.

If you want to do your own thing, then just compare LulzBot's marlin firmware configuration files against yours. I'm guessing you have some homing offsets or something screwed up.

And as for S3D, just use their stock LulzBot TAZ 4 profile. It works correctly. If things aren't working with that profile, then your firmware settings must still be wrong.

Re: Configuring a new Taz 4

I don't use Marlin, I am running with the latest Repetier and a Cyclops hot end because Marlin does not support the FSR auto leveling system I built or the mixing capabilities in firmware for the dual in-one out Cyclops hot end. I know the issue is not the firmware. If I refresh the Marlin firmware the result is the same when printing from the S3D host. If I print from Pronterface or Repetier host the print is correctly centered on the bed using the same g-code file generated by S3D. That's why I suspect I am missing something in the S3D configuration.

I did not use the stock S3D profile because my setup is not stock and I should be able to configure this from scratch like I've done for my 6 delta printers.

The stock S3D profile for the TAZ4 works correctly, so just compare your custom one to the stock one to find what is wrong in your profile

Re: Configuring a new Taz 4

How can I do that? I am not sure how to manage multiple printers from S3D without hosing what I've done for an existing printer. Currently I am running an instance on Linux for 1 set of deltas, windows 7 for another 2 deltas and OS X I'm trying to configure for this Taz. Is there a way to switch back and forth without losing configuration I've already done? From what I've read it seems so but the few times I've tried it I've lost my work.

Re: Configuring a new Taz 4

Just go to File > Export FFF Profile to save the settings to a text file. There are plenty of tools that can easily compare text files to spot the differences.

Keep in mind that when you export a profile, it's going to export the "base" profile. In S3D you have the base profile and then you can make changes from that base profile. When you make a change, the profile will be labeled as "modified" so that you know it's different than the base profile. You can use the "Update Profile" button if you want to overwrite the base profile with the modified settings you have loaded, or use "Save As New" if you want to create a new profile for your modified changes (and keep the old base profile untouched). So just keep that in mind when saving these settings.

I found this video really helpful when I was first doing profile work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZ7HFPY1wog

Re: Configuring a new Taz 4

Thanks for the video link and info. I haven't quite wrapped my head around the differences between FFF profiles and Factory files and Processes. I do save the FFF profile when I see it marked "modified" but have been perplexed why making a change to infill percentage would mark the FFF profile (which I thought was the machine specific info) as modified.

I see now how to compare to the stock Taz 4 profile so I can work through that, thanks.

Re: Configuring a new Taz 4

Ok, got it. I found the issue before I looked at the taz 4 printer profile. The problem was the Origin Offsets - I had 150, 150 and they should be 0,0. Works like a champ now, thanks.
