Print stopped 75% and bed went full Y out.

Hello,

I am printing a BB8 Dome panel. It was 75% done, then the bed went all forward and the machine stopped. I have two part question...

Makerfarm 10"
1.75 extruder
Simplify3d gcode printing at 1.5 layer with 5 perimeter.
BB8 Dome from BB8 Builders.
Printing from Flash card..no pc connected

First, If I connect the PC, Is there somewhere in the control panel that will let me look at the Gcode and the last line it failed at? That's the most important question. I know the Gcode did not end due to the fact the extruder heat and bed heat were still on.

Second, If I have the printer connected to the PC, Is there a way to "Continue" printing if it were to happen again?

I ask these only because 75% filament wasted was a lot. Up until then...The print was beautiful!

Thanks for any thoughts.

Re: Print stopped 75% and bed went full Y out.

Hmm.. if you were printing from the SD card, I'm not sure what could have caused the print to stop unless there was some kind of power fluctuation or a firmware glitch. But either way, what I would do is measure how much of the model actually printed before it stopped. Let's say it was 120mm. Next, you have 2 choices. You can either print the remaining part of your model ON TOP of the old one, or you can remove the old section and print the remaining part directly on the bed (and perhaps glue them together later).

If you want to print the remaining section ON TOP of your part, then just open your process settings, go to the Advanced tab, and enable the option that says "Start printing at height of XXXX mm" and set the value to 120mm. Now, as you will see in the preview, the remaining section would be printed on top of the old model.

If you already removed the old part and you just want to print the remaining section on the bed, then just double click on your 3D model to bring up the model settings panel, and lower your Z-offset by 120mm. So if the Z-offset was 0mm previously, enter -120mm. This will drop the part 120mm below the bed, and Simplify3D won't print anything that is below the bed. So as you can see in the preview, it will only print the top portion.

So thankfully there's several ways to do this depending on what you want :D

Awesome. I did not think about printing the missing half. That's a great idea. Thank you.

It worked! Awesome, I saved some pla.

I took your advice.

I put the failed print on the bed, Used the control panel n simplify to show me the hight. I then printed the rest. Glued, and it is a perfect match.
