wiki - the only way to do it

I know quite a lot of people who recently started using Simplify3D and there are more and more angry screams amongst them for decent written documentation. The general tone is that, if this were free software, nobody would complain... but it is not.

Myself I got to grips by patiently going through the forums with a variety of search terms. But I'll admit it was not efficient, and I still have occasional doubts about certain parameters.

Based on what I have seen in other enthusiast-centric communities I strongly believe that IF SIMPLIFY WERE TO LAUNCH A WIKI (that users could login to and edit with their USER/PASS), then very rapidly we would see the community WRITE AND MAINTAIN FULL DOCUMENTATION for all aspects of usage.

In the meantime I think I can speak for everyone to say we are delighted that the Team focus on the development and evolution of an excellent tool and product.

A wiki is an excellent way of preventing a subject being discussed again and again. Take this thread as an example:

Seriously, though, a piece of software like S3D is so complex to use efficiently that there does need to be something better than an awful forum search button for inexperienced users to use to find out answers to their questions. The videos that are on the website are good, but are really only aimed at beginners.....once you get to know the basics, the only real way of finding anything out is by asking a question on the forum. At some point, some of the "experts" on here will get fed up of answering the same questions time and time again.

I said something like this in the above referenced thread, and I'll say it again: 99% of the most useful information on this forum is on page two onwards....and very few venture there!!
