Makerbot 2X erratic movement

We have been using Simplify3D with our makerbot replicator 2X for a few weeks now. A weird thing has started happening randomly after a few minutes into printing. The head starts to move erratically almost like it is missing every other command. In the machine control panel, once it starts happening says packet sending failed.

We are trying the vanilla software to see if it's simplify or our printer.

Any ideas?

Re: Makerbot 2X erratic movement

I have had this happen twice before. Once it was a USB port on one of my computers that was starting to go bad. Moving to a different USB port fixed it. The other time, it was because of the cheap USB cable I was using. Switching to a higher quality shielded cable with a ferrite collar fixed it.

It's also possible it's related to the power supply, since power fluctuations can also cause communication problems like this

Re: Makerbot 2X erratic movement

The makerbot software works fine, even after 5 prints. Simplify still causes the problem. I have switched USB cables (ferrite on both ends and shielded) and ports already.

I'll check the power supply too.
