First Layer above the support

This topic has been discussed several times.
But I just want to understand some "why nots" better:

- Why the first layer is not 45 degree? it is like 20 degree as shown in the attachment 1.jpg.

- Is it possible to get the first layer above the support a little less than 1 layer? The problem I am having right now is PLA is kind of floating on the support coming out of the extruder because of the full layer skipped. I think 0.8 or 0.75 layer is enough to have fairly good separation, plus to have better contact with the first layer.

PS. I have almost OK result, but trying to see if anybody has mastered support with single extruder.

It looks like it's doing bridging on that top layer (which would make sense since it's a big layer with nothing below it). You can turn that off by going to the Other tab and setting the bridging area threshold to 9999.

I did more research online. It looks like the support S3D is doing with single extruder is what the best it can do.
