Overlap of parts of an object

If you look at the attached image you will see that when I import into Simplify a model that has parts that "overlap" each other, Simplify will hollow that part out. I was wondering if anyone had figured out a way to make Simplify see this as one continuous area.

I can get it to work properly by making one clean polysurface with no intersection. That takes a lot of time so I would like to leave the overlap.

Re: Overlap of parts of an object

Mesh dropdown menu====>Separate Connected Surfaces

Click the above option. This will split the mesh down into multiple parts....and the model will slice perfectly.
