Re: New printer : BCN3D Sigma

@ MUCRalle: It's true that the Sigma is quite noisy. I plan to construct housing around the Sigma to reduce the noise and keep the temperature more stable.

@ denisvic: Have you already checke the belt tension (left and right for the y-axis).
I had similar noise and the reason was that sometimes the tooth went out of the wheel. After i have increased the tension the issue is gone.

Re: New printer : BCN3D Sigma

Hi folks

Here's another Sigma / Simplify User. I'm pretty new to 3D printing and I have done some work in PLA, PETT (t-Glaze) so far and just started working with Polymaker PC with good results so far. . I also use support materials and have the same problem with oozing described by others in this thread.

Has anybody here been able to control the Sigma directly from simplify3D via the USB port? My sigmas respond when simplify builds up a connection but keeps rebooting every few seconds when simplify "talks" to it. Is there a fix for this problem?
Using direct control would be very helpful in order to work out the best parameters (temp, retraction, etc.) for different materials.

cheers, Beat

Re: New printer : BCN3D Sigma

My bad noise problem has been fixed by BCN3D support. It was a pulley without lubricant.

I have a specific problem with simplify3D and nGen. I use Zorgonaute84 settings and I have a major layer adhesion issue. When I slice the STL with same settings (temperatures, infill, etc..) everything is fine.

Re: New printer : BCN3D Sigma

Forget about the Ngen !!! Is the worst 3D printing materials i have ever seen.

The layer adhesion is very bad at 0.1mm layer height, correct at 0.2mm. I never success too print something at 0.1mm.

For the Ngen I recommend to try 235C, 40mm/s, layer height 0,2mm cooling max : 25%.

But seriously it's a peace of shit. Yesterday I tried to print the dragon you can find in thingiverse at 0.1mm, without any explication one of the wings broke itself during the print... Broke !!!!

Re: New printer : BCN3D Sigma

Hi guys,

Do any of the BCN3D Sigma owners here have any prior experience with either an ultimaker 2 and/or zortrax m200?

Thx

That's true for their standard PLA. But their Premium PLA looks great to me... No stringing whatsoever and perfect prints all the time.

Please find attached some of my profiles used with my BCN3D Sigma.

There is 5 prorfiles :
Print with the left extruder
Print with the right extruder
Dual Color print (With dual Extrusion wizard)
Print part with the left extruder and support with the right (PVA)
Same as previous but configured for Polysuport
Hi Zorgonaute,

I looked at the sigma profiles you posted... you probably adapted the one from BCN3D... (I could see because there's one typo still there)
I made my own profiles and after comparing, I want to share these remarks.

First of all I noticed we use the same extrusion parameters which seems fine :-)
Most differences are during retraction, and oh yeah... the overlap (15% is simply not enough)

Extrusion Tab:
Nozzle : 40 mm (same)
Multiplier : 1.000 (same)
Width : 40 mm (same)
I noticed (by measuring) Cura did 50 lines in its first layer over 2 cm (they look like 25 thicker lines; but two are actually molten together)...
so 20mm/50 = 0.4mm :-)

Layer Tab :
* First layer height : 200%
Like Cura and you did... BUT i did a correction in the Gcode Tab... read on.
* First layer width : 100% (I noticed you did just the same)
This will give Cura-like first (and in between and last) full layers.

Infill Tab:
* Outline Overlap : 25%
15% was enough in Cura but not in Simplify3d (calculation is performed differently it appears); 15% = you can peel off the perimeters by hand

GCode tab :
* Global G-code Z-offsets
- Global G-Code Z-offset +0.02
This is to optimize the first layers adhesion and very important to get a smooth and correct first layer !!!
(this value will be dependent on the calibrated distance of your bed to the nozzle)
+ = increases all layers printing distance from the building plate (when first layer tends to be printed too close to it) ;
- = decreases all layers printing distance to the building plate (when first layer is printed too high leaving no adhesion)
B.T.W. I had to manually recalibrate my building plate to get even extrusions in the back corners...

Other tab :
* Speeds
- Printing speed : I also chose 3000 mm/min (50 mm/s) looks like a good speed for still not losing quality
- Z-speed is now 1002 mm/min ... This was a typo by BCN3D it should be 1200 mm/min !

Advanced tab :
* Retraction :
- Only retract when crossing open spaces : Unchecked
To get cleaner prints without 'traveling head' traces on top of flat surfaces. (Cura was not retracting too like you do and had this problem too).
- Force retraction between layers : Unchecked.
When (in the Layer tab) you unchecked "Print islands sequentially without optimization" and you checked "Optimize starting point for fastest printing speed", the layer will print Islands like this : Layer 1 : Islands A - B - C Layer 2 : C - B - A; Layer 3 : A - B - C, and so on ... The print head will remain on the same island (and even position) 99.9% of the time. (The 0.1% is the case where the island was finished printing and disappears...but even then you still have to be very 'unlucky' this island happens to be the last printed island of that particular layer). So you can get rid of this (You'll notice it won't retract anymore while printing an island twice).
- Z-hop : 0.05 mm (same reason like "Only retract when crossing open spaces : Unchecked"
- Speed : 3600 mm/sec
No blobs. I know this higher speed can give issues grinding the material, so I understand you lowered this, but I noticed blobs can appear then.

Okay, so now you have my settings as well (I didn't look at your starting scripts, I have mine and they work fine)
though most are quite the same like yours.

Two questions :
* I haven't tried the coasting yet.. but heard this could give (under?) extrusion issues in some cases ... Did you notice this ?
(this is of course to get rid of the blobs)
* How is your printing quality now ? I'm having Cura like results (even better with the traceless surfaces)

Just to inform those who have a Sigma... the 0.6mm nozzle has finally arrived today. ;-)
