What on earth is going on with the speed???

Hiya,

I don't understand the following.

I set my overall speed at 45mm/s

first layer speed is set to 40% outline under speed is set to 40% support is set to 40%

the image shows the first layer on top of the raft

Image

so how come the first layer is 45.7 or even 60 mm/s?

I see. S3D is quite nice and way more better than those free counterparts, but theres a lot of bugs.

What a helpful comment.

Rebekah...not sure if you're aware, but the "first layer" is actually the first layer that is printed on the bed....and not the first layer of the model. So in your example, the 40% underspeed for the first layer is shown as the lower speed for the first layer of the raft.

Having said that, there is possibly something not right with the first layer of the model printed on top of the raft....where the inner and outer perimeters seem to print at the default speed instead of at the perimeter speed setting. Any printing for the solid layer is okay, however. The layers after this first layer seem to then print okay.....as is all the printing if no raft is printed,

Re: What on earth is going on with the speed???

This is the intended behavior. I have emailed with their support people a few times about it. The first layer on the part on top of the raft prints faster with some different speed settings to help make sure that it doesn't bond too much to the raft. That's how they designed it.

As dkightley mentioned, your first layer height/width/speed are always used for the first layer of plastic touching the bed, so in this case, they were used on the very first layer of the raft.

That's how it was designed to work. So if you don't like that, then you're probably better off not using a raft. In general, that's probably what I would always recommend anyways. Brims work MUCH better :D

That's what I was suspecting. Perhaps I should have mentioned it.....

Why is the speed of the objects first layer modified, when you can change the raft/model separation to prevent the raft from sticking the object too much?
Agreed that a brim is a better choice.
