travel along outer perimeter

outline1.jpg
outline2.jpg

In the above part (which is designed to be STRONG, hence the design and slicing with lots of fibres along each leg) there is a certain amount of travel during printing.

There is one type of travel, however, that seems to cause problems unnecessarily: that is travel along the length of the "legs" following the length of the OUTER PERIMETER.

The problem is that, from time to time, my 0.8mm Volcano travelling over a large distance might ooze a small drop of gooey plastic. If that happens on an inner track it is of no significance. On an outer layer, however, it will result in an imperfection in the next layer.

I know there's a parameter to avoid CROSSING outer layers - and I tried setting it at 100 to see if... - but is there anything I can do to stop S3d from travelling ALONG outer perimeters?

How 'bout increasing your retraction vertical lift so the nozzle is higher off the part when making moves?

Re: travel along outer perimeter

Definitely worth a try.

Thanks.

Also questioning S3d's basic logic: it understands that it's a good idea not to cross outer perimeters all the time, why does it it think that it's a good idea to cover long distances just above them? (!!!)
