the new user complaint

hello,
first excuse me for my bad english, i'm french (well known for there very good foreign langage aptitude ;-) )

I've just bought S3D and I'm in the learning phase . so i've some remarks fresh from the newby coming from other slicer software (slic3r and kisslicer)

first it would be great to have a step by step tutorial to configure the software for a generic printer. i spend a lot of time to find where to specify the filament size for exemple.

may be a configuration file setting the basic as default for all the option one time for all to avoid to have to search everywhere where's the bloody tab.

also I pulled my hair a lot trying to understand why each time I saved the process configuration the bed size switch back to default config. why enable this function by default in the process ? the usaul logic is to specify the mechanic (size, orientation, number of extruder and so on and it won't change except for experienced user who can enable the change in the process if needed.

the preset for material is unclear mixed in the process options, look like it could be easier to have separate tab: material (extrusion temp, first layer temp, bed temp, cooling, .....everything material dependant, retract length correction - a useful thing as with the same hotend, the retract could be different function of the material, not the same for exemple for ABS or ninjaflex), extruder/hot end (buse size, generic retract, autolevel available, PID setting ) and the slicing options (non material nor printer dependant) as with same material you can change the slicing options (speed/layer/support.....) without changing the material/ printer configuration.

there is a lot of things i have to discover and understand, there is surely some shortcuts i haven't found, coming from other software make this one looking weird a bit.

Re: the new user complaint

Welcome to the boards! Just in case it helps, I would STRONGLY recommend watching a few of the tutorial videos that S3D put together. They explain a few of these topics like how to add/edit material configs and why the machine settings kept changing. I will link to those 2 videos below, but there's lots more on their channel

Also, if you're trying to setup the software for a new printer, I would recommend using the configuration assistant (go to Help > Configuration Assistant in the menu). The wizard prompts you for basic settings like machine volume, filament diameter, number of extruders, heated bed, etc, then it automatically builds a profile for you based on that. Simplest method I have found :D

Re: the new user complaint

the problem with the you tube video is there are videos with explaination in spoken english (sorry american, very different from my scholar english from my young years). as long as I can quite well understood written english, american one is a definitly no go.

I will try again , but frankly why take the pain to make video instead of writing a doc ? for non english fluent people it is very hard to follow.

more it is a lot easier to switch between the doc and the sofware .

and for the wizard i haven't seen it mentinned anywhere.

that's a serious bit of software but it lacks a good documentation.

thank you
