Issue with Ooze Shield?

So I have noticed a behavior with the ooze shield that appears to be problematic in some of my larger prints where my second nozzle crosses over the print. here is a breakdown of the problem on any given layer:

T0 layers on the ooze shield, then it begins printing it's layer. At the end of the layer, it steps the z height to the next layer and prints that layer. Once its done, it performs a toolhead change. T1 then does the same thing. The problem occurs when the current tool steps to the next layer to print, but does not print on the ooze shield. Because the layer height is now higher than the ooze shield, the inactive toolhead may ooze and leave little micro zits on the print.

By comparison, makerware and it's purge walls worked excellently. Each layer it would print on the purge wall at both the beginning and end of the current layer thus negating any height differential between the print itself and the purge wall.

Am I missing something? It seems to me that having one ooze shield that contains both toolhead's purge is sub-optimal and that makerbot got it right by separating each toolhead into it's own purge wall.

Re: Issue with Ooze Shield?

More likely a problem with the retraction. Try increasing to help keep the ooze in the nozzle... it may also be a sign that the extrusion temp may be too hot by a 1-2C.
