Help with under-extruded parameters

I've got a Rigidbot and I'm using Simplify 3D. and I was getting really poor parameter adhesion on some parts so I tightened all my belts, and it got worse. I double checked the filament thickness 1.75 right on, so I cranked up the extrusion multiplier from 0.9 all the way up to 1.10 (per the troubleshooting guide) and it hasn't made any difference. it seems as though it's under extruding by an enormous amount.

this is my part: http://i.imgur.com/aBjoIfW.jpg

these are my extruder settings in S3D: http://i.imgur.com/i8ioTLG.jpg
I'm printing 3 perimeters and the inside parameter is adhering to the ceiling but the outside parameter are only attached in the corners.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Help with under-extruded parameters

I hope you're not taking those measurements from the first layer! You should never try to address over/under-extrusion problems by looking at the first layer, since it is hugely affected by the positioning and bed leveling.

If I were you, I would import a simple cube and set the software to use 0% infill with 0 top solid layers. Then tell it to print 3-4 perimeters and let the model print. You want to get at least 30 or so layers printed. Then you can look at the 3 or 4 perimeters that you printed to see if they are bonded together. If they are, then you are extruding enough. Make this decision based on layer number 30 or higher, not from the first layer!

Re: Help with under-extruded parameters

I am measuring the top layer NOT the bottom layer... the part is a simple 110mm x110mm square with a 5mm parameter and 5mm tall (which at .2mm layer height is about 25 layers tall).

the bottom layer is the only one with adhesion because of the heated bed. if it wasn't for that the perimeters wouldn't even be connected at all to the rest of the part.

if you want me to print with your suggested part and settings I will but the result will be the same, everything I've printed has come out like this.

Re: Help with under-extruded parameters

Does anyone have any suggestions for this? The same settings in Cura prints perfectly... it seems that it's just stuff coming out of Simplify3D that is under extruding... it's like it's ignoring the multiplier settings, even cranking it up to 300% produces the same result; as if nothing had changed.

Re: Help with under-extruded parameters

The picture you posted looks like it's from the first layer. Do what andrew suggested and print a simple cube with 4 perimeters, 0% infill and 0 top solid layers. Then take a picture of layer #20 or higher. That's a better way to check underextrusion.

If it's just the first layer that's wrong, then it's a different problem

It's NOT THE FIRST LAYER. it's EVERY LAYER that has this problem. But if you really need me to print a cube to prove it I'll do that tonight.

Re: Help with under-extruded parameters

Here you go... I printed a 50x50x5mm square with 4-perimeters 0% in-fill and 0 top layers...

I just in-case you're wondering how far apart those perimeters actually are, it makes a great razor blade holder, they slide right in, straight to the bottom

Note that even the floor inside the perimeter is really thin between each line

here is the same exact file printed with Cura with the same settings:
cura_cube.jpg
Great wall adhesion here; on the floor too.

if you're interested here are the gcode files for each silcer as well as the STL file.

A factory file would be far more useful......

And just for the record, settings are not 100% transportable between different slicer software packages.

Obviously, but I went through every setting on every tab to see if there was anything out of sync. they're as close as they can possible get given the inherent difference in the software.
