Rhythmical gaps in outter layers issue

Hey guys, just found this wonderfull community, and sorry for my first post and topic being a cry for help, but hey... hopefully i can help someone with some mechanical issues, i should be better at that :) Anyway, i have 2 printers the first one is a homebuilt machine, and i just recently fired it up and started printing. A few days ago i got a wanhao duplicator i3 v2 to have something in the office, since the diy one is an hours ride away. So, long story short i am very pleased with the wanhao, but i noticed a few issues with the layers. i've tried changing the extra restart distance but it didn't help much :/ any ideas?

Do you have coasting turned on?

Yes, i went through the troubleshooter for simplify3D, or at least i think i did, and the coasting settings didn't seem to help. Coasting distance is now 0.5mm, Coast at end is checked on.

This is what happened while printing Bender. The layers are othervise perfect, just this big blob at the end, or start of each layer :/ i couldn't tell. What can you guys make of this?

That definitely looks like your start/stop points, so it probably has to do with your retraction settings.

Try adjusting coasting, retraction distance/speed, and extra restart distance.

Hey thanks a lot guys! I will give it another try tomorrow, and setup a few tests. I'm thinking 2 cylinders side by side should do just fine for this. Really great forum, very happy to be here and to be able to share and learn from you guys! Thanks a bunch!

Re: Rhythmical gaps in outter layers issue

I'd look at a few things.
It seems to be a material surge at the start of the outermost perimeter. I have seen this as well, but not that severe.
On the Layer tab, set your perimeters to print from the inside-out and print more than one outline shell. I like to use at least 3.
Then on the advanced tab I have Retract when crossing open spaces un-checked.
Minimum travel for retraction is checked, and I have it set to 3mm.

These things combined should print mean the initial surge of material will happen inside the part where it won't be seen. Then as perimeters print toward the outside you should not get retractions between outlines - just a little zig-zag to start the next outline. By the time the outer perimeter prints, the plastic flow should be stabilized
