Wavy Patterns

I have an issue where there is waviness along the vertical axis of my prints. Essentially only on the Y-Z surfaces. It is not obvious on shorter prints, however it is very apparent on taller prints, and even more so when I have a layer height of 0.12 for finer prints instead of the normal 0.2mm. I have great bed leveling; Z-Axis mod very firm and locked in at 90 degrees; and I have changed the X-Axis bearings to the longer bearings, and the Microswiss split block all metal hotend. It is Version 2 of the WH Duplicator i3 which I rcvd from U3D.. It is apparent for WH and Hatchbox PLA filament, regardless of color. And I find the filament diameters are very consistent 1.75mm. I am printing at 210/60, and use S3D as my slicer.

The brass nuts that hold the Y axis threaded lead rods were a bit loose in the frame, but I used Sugru to “glue” them in place, and they are now firm. However I still note that the threaded rod has some play in it within the brass nut. All rods X, Y, and Z appear flat. No apparent bending or warping.

Some images attached to illustrate the problem.

I have been trying to resolve this for weeks with the help of the WH Facebook folks and have made no impact to this issue.

Re: Wavy Patterns

Let me start off by saying welcome!

I don't know if your printer is a clone of the Creator Pro? Does it have the SailFish FW? If so, you might need to do some calibrating and do a 20x20x10 cube.

Looks like Z waves to me which was my problem... viewtopic.php?f=8&t=5059 I had a slightly bent Z rod that produced basically what you are seeing.

If you know your FW is solid and your acceleration is perfect and turned... then maybe your Z stepping is off... look here...

and here.... you might be seeing this...

Yeah, I agree... a month or 2 ago... when I was having the same issue I posted this on the Flashforge forum..

Then a nice user said "HEY! you have a bent Z shaft and I have a spare" so he sent it to me to test.... 8-)

This was the result....

And my unit was brand freaking new... but FF didn't want to touch it.. said the prints were within "spec"

Re: Wavy Patterns

Hiya,

it is most likely Z wobble as the others have said.

however it may be worth checking your extrusion. Daft, I know. Stranger things happen.

check your filament diameter and match that in the "other" tab.

then play a little with the extrusion rate or the extrusion width. (if you have it set to auto or anything other than the nozzle size)

This may pay off.

hope it works out for yah
