Prime Pillar is printed before the Skirt

Printer: BCN3D Sigma

Print Type: Dual Color Print
Skirt: Yes
Prime Pillar: Yes
Raft: No
Ooze Shield: No

Description
The left extruder does the first outline
The second extruder then comes out and prints the first layer Prime Pillar then prints the first outline of that side.

Results
The first layer prime pillar being only partially printed or sometimes not at all. Without a solid foundation, it is more likely to be knocked down during the print due to a filament strand being deposited on the top.

Suggested Correction
The second extruder should be printing the outline to get the filament flowing well then print the first layer of the Prime Pillar.

Re: Prime Pillar is printed before the Skirt

The prime pillar is supposed to print before anything else since it's job is to get the plastic flowing before an extruder is used for the first time. It sounds like the software is doing exactly what it's supposed to.

If you want to prime the nozzles before the prime pillar is printed, then edit your starting script and put your priming code in there. For example, just add the following lines in your starting script

G92 E0
G1 E15 F300

Or you could make it extrude some plastic on the bed or whatever you want

Re: Prime Pillar is printed before the Skirt

I used to use this primmer code on Slic3r but it seems to hang my printer now when I try it with simplify

Code: Select all

G28 ; home all axes
G1 Z5 F5000 ; lift nozzle
M109 S[first_layer_temperature] ; wait for extruder temp
M83 ; extruder relative mode
G1 Z.5 F300 ; raise Z .5mm @ 5mm/s
G1 X15 E3 F75 ;
M84 ; extruder to absolute mode
G92 E0 ; reset E to 0 END OF GCODE
my guess is it is at this location

Code: Select all

M109 S[first_layer_temperature] ; wait for extruder temp
as the main cooling fan goes off 100%

Re: Prime Pillar is printed before the Skirt

Hello,

The issue with S3D is not the order of the prime pillar and the skirt, but a retraction wich is not undo.

I've got the same printer and the same trouble.

During your Start GCode, You extrude some materials with the 2nd head, then retract it, extrude with the 1st head then start...

At this moment the 1st head is printing, and the 2nd head is retracted... But when it's time for the 2nd to print (the prime pillar) the GCode generated start to print directly from the retracted situation.

That's the major issue !

S3D have to unretract then print.

The command G91 E0 F3000 is missing before the G92

This command is not missed for the nexts tool changing process. This issue appear only when the 2nd head print for the first time.

PS : I havn't checked yet, but I hope that this issue was fixed in the 3.1 version. For the moment, I mannualy add the missing comment after the Gcode was generated. Watch my previous message, I already explained the troubles and how to fix it precisely.

Re: Prime Pillar is printed before the Skirt

The BCN3D Sigma profile in the v3.1 is causing lot of issues in dual print. I would say it's not usable.

The main bug's with the Sigma in dual print are:
* Prime pillar for T0 (left) is not forced to be printed before the object.
* The retraction/purge setting for the 1st layer with T1 (right) is causing bad layer on prime pillar which could lead the tower to fail later on
* Lot of purge/retract issues before/after tool change
