Raft Failure with Dual Process Build.

I'm trying to do something like this:

https://www.simplify3d.com/support/arti ... f-a-model/

Where I have slow, thin layers to make the bottom of my part clean, then thicker, faster layers to speed up completion of the part. Here is the final path plan with the red arrow showing my switchover:

But here is the raft:

The supports built on air are causing a big mess. I can fix the raft by moving the thin layer all the way up to the red arrow, but I've lost most of my speed gains if I do that.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

I'm running simplify 3d version 3.1.0 on a 3dp1000 printer.

Thanks in advance,
Chuck in NYC

Re: Raft Failure with Dual Process Build.

This is a known issue with the software where a raft is generated based on what the profile will be printing...and not the whole of the part.

A solution is to add a throwaway part to generate the raft where you want it. I've added a deformed cube to the attached factory file that creates the raft....

There will be some who will advise you print without a raft....which is probably the best thing to do if your bed is perfectly flat and level. But reality isn't always that good!
