Re: Retract only when crossing open space?

you can do it yourself pretty easily.

import 2 cylinders spaced apart.

run the preview. you will see that it retracts when it moves from one cylinder to the other cylinder.

NOW create a duplicate process and make each process one cylinder so each is in their own process

now it will not retract when moving from cylinder to cylinder across the open space.

from a lay persons perspective it seems that once you make them separate processes it no longer sees the space between then as existing at all.

Re: Retract only when crossing open space?

Hello, I can't upload my factory file, it's 13meg (max 3meg)

Re: Retract only when crossing open space?

Following your exact instructions, I still see nothing wrong with my preview. It retracts when moving between both parts. Everything appears to be correct to me.

So again, if you guys want help, you're probably going to need to attach some sample files and perhaps some screenshots of exactly what you're seeing in the preview

Re: Retract only when crossing open space?

2 cylinders. ONLY option select is only retract when crossing open space

it correctly retracts when it moves from either cylinder to the other cross the open space between them

duplicate your process. change nothing except goto select model and make one process 1 cylinder and the other process the other cylinder.

now preview again.

ZERO retractions anywhere in the print except at the very end when it it does. it no longers sees the open space as open space.

I wanted you to make this happen so you know its nothing I am doing on my end.

factory files attached as well as pictures.

remember. the ONLY difference between the two factory files is the second one has two process one for each cylinder processes are otherwise identical cylinders are otherwise identical.

if I turn on force retract between layers sometimes it works (it does for 2 simple cylinders like this). sometimes it does not. I have found no rhyme or reason for why or why not.

Re: Retract only when crossing open space?

You have a few things wrong with your settings. First of all, I would suggest you start by reading this post: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=5634&p=24424#p24424

To summarize, if you only have a single outline print, then there is no "interior", so you need to disable the "only retract when crossing outlines" option since it has no meaning in that case.

Also, if you want it to retract between layers, then you need to enable the "force retract between layers" option. When you use multiple processes, it counts each separate process as it's own layer (which you can see from the "by layer" preview), so you need this enabled.

Just enabling the "force retract between layers" option makes your files work.
