Sketchup file - solid inspector 2 - Simplify3d - Repetier

Well first let me apologize ahead of time for the long post but this is very relevant as I've noticed a specific issue relating to Simplify3d. The part / file was created in Sketchup, checked with Solid Inspector 2 - no errors, exported as an .stl (ascii format).

Before I go further let me say I am using a Smoothieboard with Webui. No problems up to now, but with this file it worked in repetier slicer, than it was uploaded to the webserver and printed. The file was than sliced in simplify3d uploaded and the file will not print.

Clearly there is something going on with the slicer itself as everything else is the same.

The controller is actually holding the file on a microsd card attached to the controller itself. Again I am using the WEB server and printing through that.

As we speak the repetier host slicer .gcode is working flawlessly. The .gcode for simplify3d will not even start.

Again this is for Smoothieware / Smoothieboard webserver interface.

Considering simplify3d is suppose to be the bees knees, its kind of upsetting for a free program to work and simplify3d not....

It's easy to setup any of those programs incorrectly and have them not work. So you just need to make sure you have your settings right first.

What printer are you using? Have you compared the gcode files from both programs to see if there's something different in the beginning of the file?

Another FYI, I have found Sketchup's output to STL can be problematic. I stopped using it because of issues with the output. Not that this is your issue though!

Re: Sketchup file - solid inspector 2 - Simplify3d - Repetie

OP - can you post a SKP? I've rarely had manifold issues after using Solid Inspector 2... I also like FredoTools "AutoReverseFaces" and CleanUp3.

Regarding tool setup, in the STL export tool: "Export Geometry Only" selected, Millimeters and ASCII

I will check the gcode files later this evening - just back from camping (labor day weekend), I will update later this evening.

Re: Sketchup file - solid inspector 2 - Simplify3d - Repetie

Sorry about the super long post but there are two sections below highlighting the gcode - there are differences but not really sure what the problem is as I'm not really all that familiar with gcode troubleshooting.

This S3D gcode does not print via the webserver.

Re: Sketchup file - solid inspector 2 - Simplify3d - Repetie

Could it have something to do with your big Z-offset in Simplify3D and not in slic3r? Your S3D gcode starts at Z-0.07 and slic3r starts at Z+0.12. Could be smashing the nozzle into the bed or tripping some firmware safeties to prevent exactly that.

Re: Sketchup file - solid inspector 2 - Simplify3d - Repetie

The same settings work for any print I download from thingiverse. Its only if I create an object and export the stl into S3D and than save to disk.

Really strange...
