The raft feature has tendency to fill the shape outline. This means that if I am printing a circular object (that might be thin) Simplify3D creates a complete circle raft, most of it wasted.
just to add my voice to this, printing some 40cm wide but tall and thin rings, using raft for adhesion creates a massive waste of material covering the whole center (the ring is 45cm wide but only 1cm thick, so its an enormous waste of print time and material)
I have been searching for a fix for this, thinking I might have missed a setting. Is this still not fixed? With large models you can waste a lot of time and material. I'm now printing a funnel and the raft is one big circle in stead of a ring. The raft offset from part really should be in all directions or at least an option.
When I posted my problem here with the raft offset I got a mail from S3D that there will be an update (soon I hope) with several features added that users have asked for. The message wasn't clear about if this raft issue will be fixed but let's hope so
I'm happy to say that this suggestion has now been implemented in version 4.0. The raft is now only used where it is absolutely needed, saving a lot of material and plastic versus the prior version that tended to fill the entire outline of the part.
