Missing layers after prepare for print?

Hey guys,

Might be me just missing something but I think the model I'm trying to print got some missing layers:

(Could it be a problem in the STL? (got it from https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:763622))

Re: Missing layers after prepare for print?

Are you setting up a multi color print or why are you using the multipart model? Does the other model (3dbenchy.stl) slice correctly?

Try the option to "Merge all outlines into a single solid model". You will find this under "Slicing Behavior", which is located on the "Advanced Tab" of your FFF settings.

I've printed a lot of those 3D benchys and never noticed a problem slicing with S3D. So maybe it's one of your settings? Can you post your factory file?

parallyze - Other model is indeed slicing correctly, not sure what the difference is.

CompoundCarl - I attached my FFF profile, but since the other .stl file slices correctly it's probably the model file, just can't figure what's wrong with it.

Re: Missing layers after prepare for print?

I don't know what the multipart-complete file is there for. But have a look at this:
http://www.3dbenchy.com/3dbenchy-for-du ... -printing/

The one you're trying to print is all of those 17 objects together in one file. But that
means it has a lot of walls very close to each other while the simple STL file just has
"outer borders". Basically you're trying to print each part on it's own - but all at once
and very, very close together.

Have you tried the Slicing Behavoir options? Creating a single solid model should
slice properly.

Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words :)
This is the multi-part STL you're trying to print. The slicer knows the window frame and the surrounding wall are different objects, each with it's own outer shell. But there is no gap/spacing defined between them. And even if the slicer could handle this without errors (which it can if the slicing behaviour is adjusted) - the walls would be way too close to each other to take the final print apart.

Here's the simple STL sliced, have a look at the window:

Re: Missing layers after prepare for print?

btw: You will see the same problem on plenty of other meshes. Especially figurines, where sometimes the
people export the whole body mesh with teeth and tongue... although the mouth is closed. Same problem
on a littler smaller scale.

Re: Missing layers after prepare for print?

Carl requested your factory file......not the profile settings.

Save factory file on File dropdown.

The file suffix will be .factory

EDIT..

Even better, see this thread: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=4792&hilit=missing+layers

Best to run your copy of 3dbenchy through the online model repair service..... https://netfabb.azurewebsites.net/
