FDA requires you to mark plastics in both the use of food prep and medical usage. So if the item comes off my Taz 6 to be used in either market (which 100% are) I have to mark the part using indelible ink or staining (notice that last word).
Simply adding it into your design will meet the staining requirement and is something you do yourself. Build a library of marks and boolean them into a flat surface. Since most 3D printed product surfaces are not cleanable anyways for sanitary reuse, thus making them single use items, having a bridged and rough surface in the marks on the bottom side of the print is acceptable.
Us pilots have reached a conclusion about these flying cars; a flying car means you get a crappy expensive car and a crappy flying and expensive airplane. Whereas the same money would buy both, a great driving car AND a great flying airplane. I wouldn't want this in Simplify3D. I am a minimalist and Simplify3D should concentrate on great printing, not trying to stuff a modeler in the mix.
While not FDA required I would also mark items as Food Safe if your plastics supplier meets the minimum requirements;
