Something I continually find annoying is that macros defined in firmwarev setup seem very unsticky. Somdetumes they save okay, and then they disappear and I've no idea why. I can appreciate that setting up a new printer would initialize the macros, but why would the macros vapourise if I haven't changed the firmware configuration?

My guess would be that your profile is setup to override your firmware settings. So it's going to overwrite your macros too unless you either disable that option or setup a proper firmware config with the new macros.
