Top layer issue

Hi, first post here.

Just got myself S3D after finally getting my Rigidbot up and running reliably again with upgrades. Loving it so far, quality on prints and ease of use is superior on this slicers.

Problem is, extrusion height and width on first layers, comes out perfect. By which I mean, I have 0.48mm extrusion width, 0.2mm layer height.
Set first layer to 150% both on height and width. So calculated that should give my single line skirt the dimensions 0.3mm x 0.72mm. I'm measuring 0.26-.29 height, and .74-.76 width. Which seems pretty dead on, considering a little squish for adhesion. But my top layer is not coming in solid. 4 solid top and bottom layers, printing 20mm hollow calibration cube in PLA 195c, 60mm/s.

Bottom layer is pretty much perfect, and I have no gaps on perimeters. Best result yet was 1.1 multiplier, but then the bottom layer and perimeters was over-extruded a tad. Still not solid top though, just better. Is this just down to more solid top/bottom layers, or am I missing something?

Sorry if this is been asked a million times, but the other posts regarding this problem just referred to stuff like, uneven bed, under and over-extrusion. But I have none of these issues, just the damn top layers :P

Re: Top layer issue

I would try increasing the infill percentage and slowing down the solid layer speed to see if that helps. Both of those may help.

And also, you definitely don't want to evaluate your extrusion settings using the first layer. That can be massively skewed by the bed leveling and nozzle position, so don't assume the extrusion settings are correct based on your first layer measurements. Make sure you're measuring stuff closer to layer 20 or 30, where you are far from the first layer.

Re: Top layer issue

Good point, ill try measuring higher up too. But I have calibrated E-steps, and my dimensions always come out +/-0.03mm on the cube. So I can't be too far off.

I'll try slowing down things, see if that makes it better. Kinda counter-productive putting infill in there when its a Hollow calibration file it would not doubt help, but I've seen people be able to get solid prints on this cal. cube without infill.

I don't know how big your hollow cube is, but at some point it becomes more of a test of bridging performance vs anything else. Bridging is a whole different area to calibrate, so if you're trying to troubleshoot, I would first work on getting solid layers on top of infill, then move on to bridging.
