Re: Dynamic layer thickness

for objects with lots of identical vertical slices, this would potentially speed up printing a lot.

should be pretty simple to implement, just compare a slice with the one above it. if they are 100% identical, collapse them.

Re: Dynamic layer thickness

I recently suggested something very similar in the Cura forum.

However, it's not just about the angle it's also about fine structures.
An edge detection algorithm could run and look for fine structures in proximity.
When the layer number approachs that area the layer height gets reduced step by step
Once it's past the area the height is increased again.

The speed of increase, reduction as well as minimal and max layer height should be configureable.

That would be a HUGE step forward in print quality vs speed. It would mean best possible quality with highest possible overall print speed.

Re: Dynamic layer thickness

As this thread was around well before these two threads, I'll post my thoughts here.

The idea of varying the layer thickness to enhance the surface finish of angled surfaces, etc sounds like a very good idea. The links in the two referenced threads make the idea come to life as something that S3D could take advantage of...so:

Re: Dynamic layer thickness

For a slicer that costs so much more money than the many very capable free ones I think dynamic/variable layer thickness is exactly the kind of capability we should expect.

Where's the beef?
