Memory Leak? S3d Eats up 12+GB Memory Plus 24GB Page File.

Support seems to think this isn't a memory leak so I figured I would post here to see if anyone else has come across this.

Here are my specs:
Issue Details:
Simplify3D ver 3.1.1
OSX El Capitan Version 10.11.6
MBP with 2.3 GHz i5
16GB of memory
256GB SSD with 100+GB Free

S3D has been randomly stopping and I get a popup from the OS stating I ran out of application memory. If I look at the resources being used simplify3d will be up to about 12+GB when this occurs, the pagefile is full too at 24GB. Sometimes I can resume a few times then the memory usage drops down to something normal, usually around 1GB-1.5GB, most times I have to kill the application. The page file nearly instantly zero's out once S3D is dead.

It happens at random times, I've tried restarting the printer and the laptop before prints to clear up anything I could in memory but the issue could randomly happen on a Benchy after 20 minutes so that doesn't seem to help.

I've watched the memory climb up in front of me from 1GB to 10GB then go back down again without issue over the course of the print so it looks like this issue occurs multiple times per print but every now and then I get unlucky and the app just asks for too much memory and then blows up.

Also,
This issue does not occur with repetier or cura. I can print for days with them and I don't have an issue.

Any insight you guys have would be great. I've been worried leaving my printer alone with S3D because when it hangs like this the extruder and bed stay stuck on for hours on end until I come back down to my basement and see the app hung.

Re: Memory Leak? S3d Eats up 12+GB Memory Plus 24GB Page Fil

I've printed plenty of massive 500+ MB gcode files on mac 10.11 without any problems, so I can't say I've even seen this. You said you are just printing a benchy, right? How big is the gcode file? Try opening the machine control panel, and clicking the "Print" button and then selecting your exported gcode file. Then you can try printing without the preview (which will use a lot less resources and is especially useful if you are going to be printing unattended)

While waiting for my post to get approved I MAY have figured out the issue on my own. I typically keep the machine control panel open because it has the time to completion on it instead of a progress bar like the preview mode window. This has helped me when I want to duck in my room real quick and see if I have enough time to run out to the store or do some work around the house. If I keep the machine control panel closed it appears all the memory problems go away and the memory that S3D uses has stayed consistently below 1GB. I've completed a few 8 hour prints. I have a 16 hour print that I've been holding off. Once my current 8 hour print is finished I'm going to see if I can complete the 16 hour print.

Ok I found it!

I was able to replicate the issue. It's not the machine control panel but the verbose setting inside of it. If I keep the control panel open with verbose checked then eventually my computer can't handle it, memory peaks, the page file fills up, and everything stops. I was able to do two 16 hour prints back to back without an issue but as soon as I check verbose I see the memory slowly work its way up a little bit at a time.

Interesting. I'll have to see if Windows 7 behaves in the same way.
