Automatic support generation isn't wide enough

Hey all, whenever I use automatic support generation on something that is a straight overhang it doesn't generate enough support (see image). Anyway to correct this with settings?

Try lowering the support resolution. Support is like a grid and if your overhang isnt enough to cover the next block yhennit wont turn on. Default is 4mm. Try 2 mm and see what happens.

It helped, but didn't alleviate it completely (see image below). I changed it to 1mm and the support disappeared all together...at 1.5 it's better, but still going to have sloppy bottom. There really needs to be a setting that allows for support to extend beyond the edge. I'm just surprised this doesn't work.

if you manually define the support and add it to the edge does it work or no?

also, this should not apply really but for the hell of it try to lower your horizontal offset from part and see.

I've asked Clayton to add a feature which we can define how much more support to add past the model perimeter. I have the same issue, and had to go down to .2 or .3mm resolution for support. It usually works well, but then my models take a very long time to slice.

He mentioned this option could be available in the next release. You can manually add it, but it is a pain to manually locate and add over support in areas that you may miss. Also, placing support at a slight angle seems to fill in better than at 90 degree.

The problem is that they are not turning on the grid location unless the overhang covers that location 100 but if an overhang goes into a grid at all, that support pillar should be activated. This does not need to be user-configurable - it should just always do it correctly.

COULD - no it SHOULD / MUST be added to the next release, this is paramount to 3D printing... if its called Simplify, I shouldn't have to mess about with manual support on EVERY print.

Can't belief that this cant be fixed, considering ALL the free software gets this to work.. Really want this fixed please ASAP !!

2.1.0 allows you to expand the support, which is close enough to a fix of this - though they could have just made it automatic.
