Dual extrusion with multiple groups?

I'm attempting to print some things that I would like to use dual extrusion for. I've done it before but this time it's different.

For this print I was wondering if such feature exist where you can have multiple groups/processes for dual extrusion? When I use the dual extrusion wizard, with all the part loaded for the four separate models and I select the correct nozzle for each part, when they load, they are all mashed together as one group.

When I do one model, so two parts, they merge correctly and create a group but if I want to create another group, I can't because it still merges it with the other group.

The best way to do this is by setting up Dual extrusion manually.

This is due to "Group and Align models" check box enabled by default in the Dual Extrusion wizard, you can uncheck this. If this is all you need, you are good to go. However, if you want to change a lot of things, check out the steps below to manually configure Dual Extrusion, Triple or more.

Lets say you have 4 models. Now go ahead choose the right profile in the process settings.

Process 1:
1. Select Both Extruders in the Auto Config Extruders section (This should be selected for all the following processes)
2. Click on Select Model ->> Choose the Model you want to configure for this process. Unselect others
3. Go to Layer, Infill and Support Tab. Select the Extruder which you want to use for this Model
4. Additions can be selected if required, But choose All extruders option

Click on Add process and create Process 2. Repeat the same as above

Now select all processes and click Prepare to print.

To the developers of this software:

IMHO Having this feature checked by default is the worst aspect of the software.

While I'm sure there are uses for the option, I never have any, it's ridiculously frustrating because the genius is that you can't undo once the models have been placed.

Fix it, or make an option where you can change the defaults. It just doesn't make sense. I pull my hair out, every. single. time.

Re: Dual extrusion with multiple groups?

I had fun with this tonight, using a 3-in-1-out, non-mixing extruder.

I think the problem lies in separation of models and processes on the UI. The process shown above isn't at all intuitive!

If, however, the models and processes were combined, in a hierarchy, that would help. For example, I found myself attempting to right-click the models or the Processes in order to be able to assign one to the other. As it stands, you have to click each process to see what's going to print. But then, all those check boxes, by the time you add the last process, won't be checked. So, you have to check them.

Anyway, very poor UI on the left side.

I'd leave the Processes where they are, but add the ability to assign a process to a model, so the user could see that it is assigned (the Models list would show 'modelname -> [processname dropdown]'). As models are added, set them to whatever the first process is. If the use wants to change it, they could click on the process name (the one next to the model) and change it.

That would also allow for the removal of that check box. Make one of the available process names be "don't print" instead.

LMAO, I had exactly the same issue, and wondered why too, but you can get around it... by using this, and not having to re-import your models, if you forget to uncheck that tick box. It doesn't make that default acceptable, but it saved me from cursing them "developers".
