Simplify3D and Qidi Tech I

Hi,

I'm new to 3D printing, I've only had my printer for about 2 weeks and having pretty good results with the included software. However, many reviews on Amazon keep mentioning Simplify3D as the best software to use for splicing. Before I buy, I need a little more clarification.

1) How well does the software work with the Qidi Tech I 3D printer? From what I understand, it's a clone of the FlashForge printer. Anyone using the Qidi Tech that can share your experiences with me (good and the bad)?
2) Does Simplify3D (natively) export to the .x3g file format (needed by the Qidi printer)? Or is there a manual process required to export to .x3g? I want it as seamless as possible.
3) I want to print some fairly large objects, larger than the print bed (bed size is 200mmx150mmx150mm). Can Simplify3D slice an object that is larger than the print bed into multiple .x3g files to be printed individually? If so, Does it automatically build pieces that allow them to snap together or do you just super glue the resulting pieces?

Thank you for any responses, just doing a little research here before buying.

Re: Simplify3D and Qidi Tech I

It's worked quite well for me. Many more options than the basic software that came with the machine. When you start S3D for the first time, you just select the Qidi from the list of printers and no other configuration is required. It can connect and print over USB or you can export x3g files for the machine right away.

I tried to answer your other post too, but S3D already allows you to split objects using the build plate and the start/stop at height options. So I've used this many times to print objects that were quite tall in multiple pieces. For example, a rocket ship that was 600mm tall was printed in 3 parts using these options. But if you need more precise breakups for the model, you can also use the CAD package to create separate STLs and then print those in S3D.

I'll add that I use S3D for the QIDI as a slicer. Works well and has a profile setup. Select the QIDI Tech-1. And yes, the file format is printer ready.
