dual extrusion and changed layer settings: no prime pillar

I have various dual colour models where I need to changes various settings for certain regions like layer height, number of top/bottom layers etc. Then I split the printing in various processes and define (Advanced tab) the layers which need to be printed with that setting for each process. That works for single-extruder prints, but when using 2 extruders, S3D refuses to create prime pillars and ooze shields.

Even when I set the layerheight to the same value in all processes, in a dual header print S3D complains about prime pillars and ooze shields.

Am I doing something wrong :?:

... I'm sorry, factory-files is not needed - I don't remember instantly to this (and a lot more postings) :

Re: dual extrusion and changed layer settings: no prime pill

Thanks for the suggestion. In fact I did come across that post, but it doesn't solve my problem. So still a factory file. It is a small test object, consisting of 2 model-flies which are printed in 2 processes. The first proces up to 5mm, the second starts at 5mm. This configuration refuses to 'prepare to print' complaining that ooze shields and prime pillars are not compatible with different layer heights.

If, in this file, I make the layer heights equal, it continues, however the ooze shield and prime pillar stop at 5mm (being the bottom part of the model).

So, the question is, how can I print a dual-extruder print with various layer heights in different levels of the models. The only solution I can think of now is to print the entire model at the smalles layer height. This is no problem with this example, of course, but the final model will take ages to print. This is not an option.

Re: dual extrusion and changed layer settings: no prime pill

You have create a cross-over intersection in Bottom> Dome (0.2) and Slice (0.1).
That is not possible. In the horizontal level S3D accept only one layerhigh. With Dome (0.1) you get a print, but you are running into the bug as written above: the pillar and the ooze-shield are only available for the first 5 mm. (pic 1)
Dome-Slice.jpg
Delete the Top and inside Bottom > Dome and > Slice the LayersModifications (Advanced-tab) (<> 5mm) and your model will be print as expected (pic 2)
Dome-Slice2.jpg

You have positioned the pillar to NE but Slice is laying in E-direction. I think it is better to coordinate both to NE or both to E or other directions, because the printhead of your printer is than not needed to cross Dome#Slice or Slice#Dome.

Re: dual extrusion and changed layer settings: no prime pill

Thanks for your reply and suggestion about the prime pillar.

Your answer implies that it is actually not possible to do a dual extruder print with different layer heights including a prime pillar or ooze shield in S3D? That would be a bummer!

Would there be another way to get a prime pillar in dual extruder prints with different 'print processes' with different layer heights?
